Employee Portal — University of Ottawa
The University of Ottawa (uOttawa) is the largest French-English bilingual university in the world with more than 40,000 students. It is also a diverse place to work with 5,000 bilingual employees working from three campuses in central administration roles, in one of the many research centres or in one of the University’s 10 faculties.
Prior to this project, uOttawa did not have an employee portal or Intranet site for its faculty and staff. The goal of this project was to develop an employee portal that will provide all University employees including support staff, professors and researchers, with one single point of access to a secure Web-based tool where they will be able to perform essential work-related tasks and engage in work-based communication. The goal is to have one place for employees to go to access all of their work related information and tools.
uOttawa engaged Annie Crombie to create a web information architecture for a scalable employee portal that is intuitive, bilingual and useful for employees and stakeholders alike. The project included analysis of existing content, consultations with internal stakeholder groups, business requirement and card sorting workshops, development and testing of strawman information architecture, development of wireframes, and usability testing.
